Notes Left Behind

This is Elena:
-She always eats her vegetables first.
-She can never wear enough pink.
-She always writes her name backwards—not because she doesn’t know how to write it, but because she “just likes the way it looks.”
-She crosses her legs when she sits.
-There is nothing better than art class, except, of course, a trip to the library.
-Fiction is better than nonfiction.
-Skip the pop, give her milk. And pour it in a wineglass and say “cheers.”
-She loves “squibble-squabbles” (lace and ruffles).
-Tights are best when in jungle patterns or polka dots.
-No pants, only dresses.
-She loves babies.
-When you play school, she is always the teacher.
-Mom is best for cuddling.
-Sally (a grumpy old Chihuahua) is the best pet she never had.
-You can never have enough headbands.
-All she ever wants in life is to be a mom.
Elena Desserich was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer when she was just 5 years old. In August 2007 she lost her battle at the age of 6. When Elena was diagnosed, her parents were told she had just 135 days to live. They never told her she was dying and wanted to make the time left special for Elena and the hole family. During her 9 months battle Elena was secretly writing love notes to her family members and hiding them between the pages of books, in cupboards, drawers, bags etc. in her house and the houses of relatives. Her family found the first ones a few days after she died and have found them ever since, they never want to find the last one as everytime they find one its like a hug from Elena. "She was a child who was wise beyond her years. I hate to think she knew she was dying but I think she did."

Friday 23 October shortly before 3 pm, searchers in deep woods found the body of the 9 years old Elizabeth Olten missing since Wednesday 21 October evening, when she was last reported walking home from a friends house.

Brownstonee of the Ontario Family Courts ruled that the CCASS had the authority to place the children with Stephen as he already had a Joint-Custody Agreement enforced as of February 16th, 2006.

On Friday March 6th 2009, Edyta ( Ustaszewski ) WATKINS father, Tadeusz ( TED ) Ustaszewski, was confirmed by the school to be alone when he picked-up the children from their school and daycare to have a weekend access with their mother.
On Monday March 9th 2009, Stephen WATKINS advised York Regional Police that Edyta WATKINS or her father, Tadeusz ( Ted ) USTASZEWSKI had not returned the two children after her scheduled Court Ordered weekend access visit. The children’s school called and advised Stephen WATKINS that Alexander WATKINS and Christopher WATKINS were not dropped off in the morning.
Stephen WATKINS advised York Regional Police that he feared Edyta WATKINS would attempt to abduct the children, as she had not turned in their Canadian Passports as required by a previous Court Order issued on November 21, 2007 and that Edyta WATKINS had family living in Chicago, USA, in Torun, Poland and in Warsaw, Poland.
Durham Regional Police were requested to attend Edyta WATKINS residence and found no one home.

Canada Border Services Agency was able to advise York Regional Police that Tadeusz ( Ted ) USTASZEWSKI returned to Canada alone at approximately 4:15 pm the same day.
On March 10th 2009, the US Department of Homeland Security advised York Regional Police that they had confirmed that Edyta ( Ustaszewski ) WATKINS and the children Alexander WATKINS and Christopher WATKINS had left on Northwestern Flight 52 from Detroit via Rochester, NY, USA to Frankfurt, Germany on Sunday March 8th, 2009.

Based on the above information, York Regional Police in Ontario, Canada believe that this was a planned abduction and requested that a Warrant in the First be issued for Edyta ( Ustaszewski ) WATKINS for committing the offence of Abduction in Contravention of a Custody Order, contrary to Section 282 of the Canadian Criminal Code.

Members of her extended family who reside in Chicago have confirmed that Edyta, Alexander and Christopher are now in Poland where Edyta was born and still has family although they may have also traveled or relocated in the countries of Germany and Austria.

MeKenna Brown, 3rd anniversary in Heaven

NEVE SHAKE A BABY!
As told by her mother:

My daughter MeKenna Sharee Brown was 21 1/2 months old. She was so smart! She was walking, talking, and just so full of life! I had just started going back to college after a four year break. I was 24. I had only been in school for about two weeks. On Wednesday September 13th, 2006, I had my first English quiz. My friend Steve didn't have class that morning, so he said he didn't mind watching MeKenna. I left early for school that day to study in the parking lot before class. I was bound and determined to get straight A's. I managed to get through the quiz (I found out later I got a perfect score 10/10!!!) On my way home from class later that day, I called home to check on MeKenna and talk to Steve. I had a 25 minute drive home, so i figured i could chat with steve a little bit to make the drive home seem faster. I had worked alot the weekend before and I was off that evening, so I was very excited to get to spend the whole day with my baby girl. When I called, Steve answered. I asked how MeKenna was, and he says " I don't know, I think something may be wrong?" He then told me she wasn't breathing right. I didn't quite know what he meant, because he seemed very calm. I called 911 since I was so far away from home. I arrived at the hospital the same time as the paramedics. I asked what was wrong with my baby. No one really had any answers. I did hear one man say "we don't know." It seemed like eternity, but I think it was about 45 minutes when a doctor came out of the room to tell me they suspected there might be head trauma, because her pupils weren't dilating. I wasn't quite sure what that meant, or if it meant it was severe, but I knew it wasn't good. The scans came back. The doctor asked me to come into another room. I didn't want to go, because I think I knew in my heart it was going to be bad. He asked me to have a seat. I felt like I was in one of those movies where they say " you might want to sit down for this " So at first I didn't want to sit, but I told myself, if it was bad news, I better be sitting because I might faint. I then heard the words "someone shook your daughter violently. If she survives, and that's "if" she survives, she will be severely disabled." I lost it. Her whole life flashed before my eyes, literally. I prayed she would get through it, that it wasn't as bad as they said it was. They life flighted her to a major hospital in Toledo, OH about an hour away from where I live. My daughter entered heaven the following night. She died at 10:31 pm on September 14th. The man who shook my daughter, whom I trusted, and who told me over and over he loved me, whom treated me like a queen, is now facing 15 years to life in prison. I miss MeKenna so much, she was my only child, my whole world. Never leave your child with someone u don't truly know and trust. It's now my purpose in life to try to put an end to child abuse, and my cause is making parents aware of the dangers of shaking a child, and that it can happen to any one. There really is no way to describe the pain and horror of losing a child. I can only say, it's sort of like how you would imagine it, except it's real, it's not just a bad thought. You have to wake up every single day, and getting hit with the reality of it all, that they aren't coming back. You also have to tell yourself every day that you will be with them someday. Shaking Shatters Lives! Never Shake a Baby!

Jaycee Dugard found after 18 years!

An 11-year-old California girl snatched from the street in front of her house in 1991 had two children with the man accused of taking her and was forced along with the children to live in backyard sheds, police said Thursday.
"From what they have both said, he fathered both of those children with Jaycee [Dugard]," El Dorado County Undersheriff Fred Kollar told reporters.
The girls, now 11 and 15, had been living with their mother, now 29, in a series of sheds behind Garrido's house in Antioch, California, until they were discovered on Wednesday, Kollar said.
"None of the children had ever gone to school, they had never been to a doctor, they were kept in complete isolation in this compound, if you will, at the rear of the house," he said. "They were born there."
In a rambling telephone interview from jail, Garrido told CNN affiliate KCRA of Sacramento he was relieved at being caught.
"I feel much better now," he said. "This is a process that needed to take place."
Kollar said Garrido's wife, Nancy, was with her husband when Dugard was abducted from the street in front of her house in South Lake Tahoe. Dugard was already a registered sex offender at the time.
"There was nothing then nor is there anything now to indicate that this was anything other than a stranger abduction of an 11-year-old," Kollar said.
The investigation went years without apparent progress until Tuesday, when Garrido showed up on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley with his two daughters and attempted to get permission to hand out literature and speak, Kollar said. He did not know the subject of either the literature or the planned talk.
Police officers "thought the interaction between the older male and the two young females was rather suspicious," so she confronted them and performed a background check on him, Kollar said.
That check revealed that Garrido was on federal parole for a 1971 conviction for rape and kidnapping, for which he had served time in the federal penitentiary at Leavenworth, Kansas.
A school spokesman identified the officers as Allison Jacobs and Lisa Campbell, and said the two became suspicious of "subtle behavior" Garrido exhibited.
They passed on the information to Garrido's parole officer, who requested that the 58-year-old man appear Wednesday at the parole office.
Garrido did just that, accompanied by his wife, Nancy, "and a female named Allissa," Kollar said.
The presence of "Allissa" and the two children surprised the parole officer, who had never seen them during visits to Garrido's house, Kollar said.
"Ultimately, Allissa was identified as Dugard," Kollar said.
DNA confirmation is being sought to confirm her identity, but Dugard revealed information during an interview that only she could have known, Kollar said.
"The two minor children turned out to be children of Jaycee and the male suspect, Garrido," he said.
Scott Kernan, undersecretary of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, told reporters that Garrido admitted to having abducted Dugard.
El Dorado County Sheriff's Office online records showed that Phillip and Nancy Garrido were in the county jail, held on suspicion of offenses including conspiracy to commit a crime and kidnapping with the intent to commit robbery and rape.
Dugard had been living behind Garrido's home since she was kidnapped, Kollar said.
But her presence there apparently went unnoticed by others in the residential neighborhood, where homes on one-fourth to one-half-acre lots typically sell for less than $200,000, said Kathy Russo, whose father has lived two houses away from the Garridos for 33 years.
"My dad said he never saw a young woman," said Russo, who added that her father, 94-year-old Dante Confetti, considered Garrido to be a "kind of strange, reclusive, kind of an angry kind of guy."
She said the one-story house's backyard was obscured by trees and ringed by a wooden fence.
Her family's last contact with Garrido was last fall, she said. "He was burning something in the backyard and my home health aide called the fire department," Russo said.
"He was really pissed off," she said. "Came over to the house and started yelling."
Garrido told KCRA that he left documents three days ago with the FBI in San Francisco, California, that would shed light on the case. "They're going to be a part of the trial," he said.
A call from CNN to the FBI's San Francisco bureau was not immediately returned.
Garrido said he could not go into detail about why he chose to abduct Dugard. "I haven't talked to a lawyer yet, so I can't do that," he said.
But Garrido said he had "completely turned my life around" in the past several years. "You're going to find the most powerful story coming from the witness, from the victim," he said. "If you take this a step at a time, you're going to fall over backward and in the end you're going to find the most powerful, heartwarming story."
He added, "Wait 'til you hear the story of what took place at this house. You're going to be absolutely impressed. It's a disgusting thing that took place with me in the beginning, but I turned my life completely around."
Describing the two daughters, he said, "Those two girls slept in my arms every single night from birth; I never kissed them."
But in a later comment, he said that, from the time the youngest was born, "everything turned around."
Asked about the fact that they had not seen doctors, he said, "We just didn't have the finances and so forth."
Kollar said a search of Garrido's property "revealed a hidden backyard within a backyard," he said. It included several sheds no higher than 6 feet tall, two tents and several outbuildings "where Jaycee and the girls spent most of their lives."
The "secondary" backyard was inside the first and was "screened from view." One of the sheds was soundproof, he said.
"The way the backyard is set up you could walk through the backyard, walk through the house and never know that there was another set of living circumstances in that backyard."
At the end of the backyard is a 6-foot fence lined with shrubs, tall trees, garbage bags and a tarp, all of which obscured views of what was there, he said.
Extension cords provided electricity to the sheds and tents, and an outhouse and rudimentary shower "as if you were camping" were there, too, he said.
Dugard "was in good health, but living in a backyard for the past 18 years does take its toll," Kollar said. He described her as "relatively cooperative, relatively forthcoming" in discussions with detectives. He said Dugard was "in relatively good condition," neither obviously abused nor malnourished. He added, "There are no known attempts by her to outreach to anybody."
The mother and her two daughters were staying at a motel in the area, he said. "Family reunification has begun and will be a long and ongoing process," he said, presumably referring to Dugard's parents.
Earlier Thursday, Carl Probyn, Dugard's stepfather, told CNN that an FBI agent had called his wife, Terry, on Wednesday afternoon to tell her that Dugard had been found.
"Jaycee remembers everything," he said. "They talked back and forth and she had the right answers to all my wife's questions."
He said, "I'm feeling great! ... It's like winning the Lotto."
He witnessed the abduction of the blond, blue-eyed girl, who was wearing a pink windbreaker and pink stretch pants as she walked to her bus stop on June 10, 1991.

Save Liam

On March 05, 2007 5 year-old Liam Gabriele McCarty, a United States citizen, was kidnapped from his home in Manhattan and taken to Rome, Italy where he has been languishing in an Italian orphanage.
This appalling abduction was aided and facilitated by the Italian consulate in direct violation of explicit court orders that Liam not be removed from the United States. The kidnapper whom the consulate assisted is Manuela Antonelli, a psychologically disturbed international fugitive currently sought by Interpol, and on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. She is also Liam’s mother.
For over two years Liam’s father and sole legal and physical guardian, Michael McCarty, has been embroiled in an emotionally and financially devastating international battle to try and protect his son, and to see him safely returned to his proper home. In the course of this grueling battle the Italian judicial system has blatantly refused to acknowledge Mr. McCarty’s legal parental rights, as well as the orders, judgments and findings of the U.S. courts. More importantly this system has ignored Liam’s fundamental right to a competent and loving parent, inexplicably choosing to leave Liam as a ward of the state; a prisoner and forgotten victim of an ineffective system.

Please help us help Liam!

The story of Brandon Muir

In memory of Brandon Muir
2006 - 2008

On 15th March 2008, his mother Heather Boyd left 23 months old Brandon with her boyfriend of just a few months in their Dundee flat while she went out shopping. When she was away, Robert Cunningham assaulted the little boy so savagely that he suffered a ruptured intestine.
During the course of the day, he became increasingly unwell and was vomiting brown liquid. Detective Chief Inspector William Semple from Tayside police said the mother thought he had a 24-hour bug and was unconcerned. In the early evening Heather went out to work as a prostitute to raise some money for heroin. After that she and Cunningham took Brandon to a party round the corner. He was clearly very unwell by this point and was propped up beside the toilet while they took drugs in the other room. At around two in the morning they finally called 999 after he became unconscious, but it was far too late by this point to help little Brandon. He was pronounced dead in hospital having suffered fatal acute peritonitis. Doctors say he must have been in great pain and yet, for more than 24 hours, no one bothered to get medical help and he did suffer more than 36 injuries.

Robert Cunningham was sentenced t0 10 years in jail for killing Brandon. Heather Boyed was cleared.

John, Brandon's father said "Brandon was amazing, always smiling, always playful. He was great." and a friend of the family said "Brandon always gave you cuddles. He was affectionate."

May you rest in peace little Brandon. Sadly Child protection services failed again..

FAMILY ABDUCTION: Sophia Vivian Civartetcaia-Turner

On February 15th 2007 a little angel was born to the Turner family in Rockford Illinois USA. A blond; blue eyed baby that reached out for life as soon as her voice could be heard. When she started learning to speak there seemed to be no difficulty in learning English and Russian at the same time. The little sweet heart is a heart breaker and looks to melt anyone.

On April 30th, 2009 Olga left from Chicago O'Hare airport under the guise of returning to her native country to renew her passport and help her mother. Mr. Turner discovered several clues that gave him cause for concern and on May 17th traveled to Moldova. Upon arrival on May 18th Mr. Turner received email notice from Olga of her plans to divorce and to remain in Moldova with Sophia. Sophia was last seen May 21st during a sanctioned meeting were Sophia was taken by force from Mr. Turner by Olga's family. During this incident Olga's father Platon assaulted Mr. Turner to prevent Mr. Turner from keeping Sophia - while Sophia was taken into hiding. On May 25th, 2009 Mr. Turner's Moldavian attorneys received notification by Olga's representatives of her intent to ransom and refuse to return Sophia until Mr. Turner submitted to the terms. On June 3rd 2009 Mr. Turner returned to the US without Sophia. As of June 10th 2009 Mr. Turner, US Embassy in Moldova, local and International police have been unable to locate or communicate with Sophia's captors. A reward of 1500 leu (~$134 US) will be offered to anyone that knows the whereabouts of Sophia and her mother Olga.

The newly formed Republic of Moldova is not part of the European Union and is not a signatory of any International laws or conventions, including The Hague. As a result they do not honor or follow customary parental or children's rights nor do they recognize the lawful processes concluded here in the United States. Local US law enforcement, including the FBI and the Department of State are working diligently but can not operate in Moldova. There are many layers of bureaucratic red tape that are causing mounting legal fees, expensive search efforts and travel expenses to and from Moldova. It's costly and overwhelming.

Please keep Sophia in your prayers!

Another child died in hot car...

1 year old girl died when her father forget her to his car and went to his work in Lyngby, Denmark. The child was found dead from her fathers car in his jobs parkinglot. She died to heatstroke.

The thing I got angry about was something I read from finnish paper Iltalehti with that. Finnish doctor think that this child can not be healty because she died that fast to the heat, that healty poeple can die to heatstroke about in 1-2 hours and its rare to child die that way. He also say that heat like that can only make healty childs condition go to wore.
That is something that is not true, the heat inside a car that is parked can kill young child very fast. That just is something that finnish poeple finnish poeple dont understand because like they say we havent had single case like parents forgotr children to hot cars, normally its not even that hot in Finland and when it is we dont understand it. Tho I dont believe at all that we havent ha single case where a child have dies to hot car.

Please never ever leave children and pets alone to the car in summer and young children should never ever be leaved alone to the car! Within 5 minutes the heat inside a car can make young child too lethargic to act.

This is why we need Avas Rule, and why poeple should be aware of it.
And what can we do about that parents FORGET their children to cars, forget to take them to day care and just go to work? Huh, I can never understand. Anything how we could stop it happening? Of course mistakes happends to everyone, we are just humans but this is way too big mistake to happend.

Haylee Mazzella, 3rd anniversary in Heaven

Haylee Danyelle Mazzella
2001 - 2006

Haylee Mazzella was born in Louisiana on July 13, 2001. She loved to play and to be outside. She loved and enjoyed the simple things in life, although she was a girl she had her tomboy side, she loved to catch lizards and keep them for pets. She enjoyed helping DaDa in their garden or cutten grass, just as long as they were together she was happy. And her favorite toys of all time to play with were dinosaurs. Any type, shape, or size she loved to create,"The Land Before Time Scenes". Nevertheless, she loved to get into mommy's makeup box and together they would dress her up and laugh at how much fun it was just to their be together.

Sadly Haylee passed away on June 03, 2006 at the tender age of 4 due to a tragic and needless drowning.

Always remember Ava's rule to keep your young children safe and alive.
Accidents can happend to everyone.

The temperature inside a parked car can be as much as 40C/104F hotter than outside ie. 36C/97F day, 76C/201F inside the car.
75% of this rise occurs within five minutes of closing the car.
90% of the temperature rise occurs within fifteen minutes.
Open windows do not significantly decrease the car's temperature.
Young children ate three to five times more sensitive to heat.
The younger the child, the faster heatstroke and dehydration occur.
Hyperthermia, dehydration & asphyxia can all lead to death.

Teach your children to NEVER enter a parked car without an adult, and show then how to blow the car's horn (if operational when stationary) if they ever become trapped for any reason. Wintihn 5 minutes, the heat inside a ar can make young child too lethargic to act.

The Story of Ava Rosemeyer - Rest in Peace Super Princess
Ava Florence-Beth Rosemeyer was born August 22, 2003 in Autralia, she was very long waited girl after her parents have 2 boys before her. Ava was very loved by everyone around her, she was everyones Super Princess. She was like normal little girl who loved fairies, ballerinas, all sparkly, she did not wnat to wear anything else than pink, but more than anything though, she loved her Grandad.

But in February 03, 2007 everything changed. That day at 10.30 am Ava's mother went next door to Grandads to use the computer there and Ava go with her. She sat right beside her mother while she proofed some photos and at midday Luca asked if they could do some rearranging in his bedroom. Her mother turned the computer off and took the three children back to their own house, but on the way Ava started to pest for something she'd left behind. Her mother said she wasn't going back and said for her to go get it and then come home again. It's only about 10 meters to their grandad's door and they have one big wall around both properties so the kids can roam from one house to the other all day.. She went back to Grandads and her mother went upstairs with the boys and Crayton to do what Luca had asked. They spent an hour there and it did cross her mind a few times that Ava wasn't there helping but she knew she was at Grandads and just assumed she was watching something on TV and having lunch. When they go downstairs, Crayton went next door to get something and Ava's mother heard him call out to the boys to ask if they knew where Ava was. Immediately her mother felt alarmed that she wasn't where she do assumed so she got up and went out the front of our house where Grandad was standing. She said "Where's Ava?" and he said "I don't know.. She said she was going to the car" and before he could finish his sentence, which was to say "and then to your house", she turned and ran to the car which was only parked a few steps away. She immediately found Ava inside and I knew instantly that it was very bad. She had seen only a few days previously a story about children in hot cars and how little time it takes for serious damage to occur. She had been in the car up to 30 minutes - all the while Grandad thought she had go to home and her mother still believed her to be with him. They never park on the driveway normally and the car had been locked but one of the children had got something out of it that morning and not relocked it. They believe she had gone in to get lollies and shut the door to hide and then they thought the child locks had stopped her from getting back out but they were only on in the back. She had been in the front seat at some point so could have opened the doors if she'd tried. Her mother now know that the effects of heat take place so quickly that she probably passed out before she even knew to get out. The next thirty minutes were absolutely chaotic while they desperately tried to cool Ava down with water and waited for an ambulance. It seemed to take forever and to make matters so much worse, one of the boys had plugged a phone into a point upstairs in the hour before rendering their cordless phones inoperable. Her mother could not figure out why I couldn't dial out and had to yell to neighbours to call for them. Ava was still breathing but not conscious and they all felt very, very scared. When the police arrived with the ambulance, it was like a reinforcement that it really was as bad as she thought. Ava was taken to the local hospital where they put her on life support and cooled her body right down in an attempt to limit brain damage and later that night she was taken to the Mater PICU and placed in an induced coma. They were told she would stay like that for a few days and then they would start to raise her body temperature 1 degree at a time and bring her out of the coma. They had to just wait and see just how much damage she had suffered and her mother could not describe the agony that they endured wondering just how their little girl would be. They had excellent support from the Mater, they were amazing, but at the end of the day, no-one could tell to them whether Ava would live or die and whether she'd be anything like the Ava everyone knew. Over the next two days, her statistics improved slightly and they were told there was a good chance she would survive. On Monday they drove down to the Gold Coast to see the boys and Ivy. Only 2 hours later, while they were home the hospital rang to say she had become unstable. They live an hour from the hospital and whilst frantically driving up the highway, we got a call to say she had suffered a heart attack. Her mother knew in that moment there was no hope and by the time we got to her, she had already passed away. There was no clear cause as to why Ava died except the doctor believes she did suffer extensive brain damage which ultimately stopped her ability to control her blood pressure.

Ava died with her Aunty Angie holding her, never leaving her side, whispering into her ear and staying calm. Her aunt helped her to this world and was there when she left us. Ava passed away at February 05, 2007.
